In a night full of movements the Hawks made one final move trading back into the middle of the 2nd round and picking up Maryland big man Bruno Fernando with the 34th pick.
The number 57 pick who the Hawks acquired in the De’Andre Hunter deal is headed to Philadelphia along with a pair of 2nd round picks. The details of what picks are on the move have yet to be reported.
With the uncertainty of whether or not the Hawks will re-sign Dwayne Dedmon there was definitely a need to either draft another big man or add one in free agency. At 6’10, 240 Fernando is big that is really active around the rim. He is still very raw in his development but still managed to have a good year at Maryland averaging 13.6 ppg, 10.5 rebounds and 1.9 blks per game. I had him as the 3rd best Center in this draft behind Jaxson Hayes and Bol Bol. This is a very good pickup for the Hawks.
Fernando played his college ball with Kevin Huerter so it will be good to see a familiar face when he walks into the Hawks locker room.
With the additions of Hunter, Reddish and now Fernando the Hawks came away from this draft with quite the collection of young talent. Things are about to be very interesting for these Hawks.
